Rules and the relativity of the rules.
As I see it, depending on the level of the event (regional, divisional,
tour, Nationals) has a direct bearing on the conformity of the rules. At a
regional level I have seen the many rules become quite ..... flexible ....
lets say. As the driver's capability and level of event increase the
strict interpretation of the rules become less flexible (more to the letter
of the law).
I commend you for caring about your seat issue before actually doing
something. Some people only worry about it after doing something that
could be viewed as ill-advised.
My personal opinion (not based on the rules), I would say do the best that
you can, "reasonably" (a relative term), to replace the seat(s) in the car
with something that closely matches the supportiveness and weight of the OE
seats. Taking it one step further, make sure the replacement seat is
heavier (document it, just in case). One major plus I see is the possible
change from cloth to leather, both a heavier product and a less than
desirable performance material due to the slick surface.
To go even one step further, ask your competition, regional, div ... etc
their opinion. Since they are the ones that would protest you.
