While I appreciate your response Chris, in addition to directing to the
correct responder, I didn't see anything about on-line registration. I
think it would be great, but what does that have to do with my ability to
passively view the entry list? I often peruse the entry lists in order to
make decisions on whether I want to enter or not.
We all know the internet is a ruthless place. Why would/should I spent the
time researching this? Scams are the norm in the 'net and I play a pretty
conservative hand when dealing with any entity on the net. I will not add
information to anything unless I am sure that the data is not going to
appear somewhere else on the future. I'm glad an autocrosser is running
this, but what does that have to do with the real issue.
Now, having said all that, I just realized that this is my friend and former
co-driver's website if my memory serves. I can assure everyone that this is
a stand up guy, and has the best of intentions in mind.
Sorry, I meant no offense to you and what your doing but this illustrates
something about people's nature. Implementing something like this takes
work to do correctly. You need to notify people in advance of something
like this, otherwise they naturally feel like Chuck. This wasn't done that
I saw.
Chris, my participation in SCCA events should not require signing up for
anything outside of SCCA. (Even if it is my friend) If I mail my entry in
the old fashioned way, I must still register just to see the entry list.
You say it isn't blackmail....I'm sorry but I think it *is* and I think you
will find many people will feel this way. Rule books and other such
requirements that we accept are *not* the same thing. You may see this as
creative marketing or a harmless association, but to the un-informed SCCA
member taken by surprise, it looks very bad. (Obvious already, isn't it?)
I say utilize the online registration functionality, but drop the
registration requirement to view the lists. I'm not a programmer, but I'm
going out on a limb and say that this is possible. If you must have some
kind of registration process in order for the system to work, put a less
commercial face on it. Call it "SCCA Online Registration" or something.
Also, add assurances that names and information will not be sold to anyone,
anytime. Or maybe just do the old fashioned advance notice and education
thing. Could work. Thanks!
