A local club member here in So Calif walked into Sube Sports in Huntington
Beach last week to buy an autocross helmet and inquired about the difference
between SA2000 and M2000 because he was going to use it for autocross only,
not track events. Well the salesman there said to get the SA2000 because
"starting in (or around) January of next year, all autocross events will require
SA-rated helmets." He asked if this was an SCCA specific ruling, to which
the salesman replied "ALL autoX events."
I have never heard this and nobody i've asked has heard it either. I've looked
at all my Fastracks again and found nothing about it. Since he said it wasn't
just an SCCA thing i was thinking maybe the insurance companies the various
clubs use might be requiring this for next year but still you'd think we would
have
heard about it if it were true. Sube is a good company and usually knows their
stuff so before i say that salesman was full of crap or misinformed i want to
make
sure there isn't a movement to disallow M-rated helmets next year. Any
officials
out there know any more about this or is it just another unsubstantiated rumour?
