Another way to look at it:
In an autox all we need are brakes that can predictably stop at the limit for
70 second run. Thus for most cars cooling isn't an issue. My FP 911 has the
smallest rotors and calipers Porsche ever put on a 911 and they work just fine
rain or shine. But they do overheat in a 40 minute open track session.
In a 30 minutes on an open track you need the same performance just for 30
minutes so cooling becomes an issue. More air flow or bigger brakes or both.
In a 24-hour race it's just that much more important, so much more so that one
company uses carbon fiber rotors that are almost as hard as diamonds and wear
so little they use one set of rotors for an entire season of endurance racing.
Which leads back to my original point anybody with drilled or slotted rotors
for an AutoX application isn't doing it to go faster.
