They did back in the early 90s IMSA Firehawk racing
program. Unfortunately the early models, eg.'91 SW20
chassis suffered from the same syndrome of early
Porsches; that is, the ass would want to come around.
These MR2s were running 260hp and could regularly pass
Porsches on straights but then suffer on braking into
a corner.
Then for MY 92 Toyota engineers re-arranged the rear
suspension of the SW20, ie. lengthened the rear
lateral links and raised the attachment pts of the
trailing arms. Just as these improvement came about,
the MRs were no longer running in the program.
