Actually,
Overlaying one video over the other doesn't seem too hard to me with software
only. Use a video editor (Adobe Premiere, for example) and insert both videos,
on separate channels, and drag one or the other so the car start times are
identical. Use a cross fade transition (one that would normally fade one into
the other) but prolong the transition over the entire course of the shot.
Normally that transition would be set to start at 0%, and end at 100%. All
you'd have to do is change the start and finish points to 50%. That would
merge the audio and video so you could see them "ghosting" sortof.
