Forgot to mention that these have not been issues for us other than a couple of
vague recollections of some car with side exhaust blowing over a cones; perhaps
the cones were downwind as well?

We are on the prairies here and get some pretty good winds. At the Canadian
Western Autoslalom Championships in June we had a brief wind/rain storm come in
and blow all kinds of stuff away including papers, loose items and some large
plastic dividers (that can be filled with water and are the size of the large
6000 lb concrete dividers used on freeways). The only cones displaced by the
mini-hurricane were the ones clobbered by the moving barriers.

Therefore according to our experience, it would seem to me that cones being
blown over (they are smaller and more compact as well as lighter so they would
catch less wind) are more of a "freak" occurrence with high displacement/high
output cars with side exhaust. I seem to vaguely recall of two occurrences over
the 20 or so years I've been involved in this sport and they were side exhausts
in both cases - one may have been a kit Cobra if I recall correctly.

The Viper with 8 litres would also be a good candidate.....also with a large
body developing significant air currents I would think.

Regards,
Reijo
