That's because they aren't designed to fall apart.

Maybe that's the problem, maybe it's not, but two rubbing stock cars don't 
create an instant "yard sale".

If you take "structural integrity" as a positive or desirable trait in a 
race car, The main difference could be that, on CART -type cars, the 
driver's tub is the limit of the structure, and the rest of the car can be 
designed to fall away as it impacts, while on stock cars, the WHOLE CAR is 
structure, and is designed accordingly.

It sounds like what one would need, is a stock car chassis where the outer 
structure that isn't so 'stiff' and can cave in or fall away during an 
impact, while the driver's "capsule" (if you will) is the part that does 
the protecting.

The only problem that might result from that, is that you get the same 
intolerance for 'rubbing' that open-wheeled cars have, which results in 
more yard sales...... It might reduce it's attractiveness to the average 
fan, but it beats dying.
