This should also be a warning to avoid using debit cards except when
absolutely necessary.
Car rentals, motel rooms and even automatic payment of cable bills often
vary from the expected amount, both for legitimate and for illegitimate
reasons (extra miles, phone calls, pay-per-view, etc.)
If there is a mistake (never in _your_ favor, you will notice), your
cash money is no longer available until you have a chance to correct the
error.
A real credit card is much safer, even if your debit card has some kind
of guarantee program against false charges. The money is still gone
with the debit card 'til you can protest.
