I have now one shifter kart fit for F125 and sprint racing. I also have one
home-built enclosed trailer and one 2001 Nissan Frontier 4x2 2.4
5-speed(143hp, 154lb-ft).
Now that I have said truck, rated to tow 3500 lbs, to tow a trailer instead
of my wife's Grand Am GT, rated to tow 1000 lbs, I want to get a 'real'
6'x10' enclosed trailer to use instead of the 5'x8' enclosed I built. I am
now shopping for an enclosed trailer. Woohoo, I'm on my way to being a real
racer now, cause all the real racers use enclosed haulers. Heh-heh, yeah
right.
Knowing that the truck has a limited power source with which to overcome the
added aero drag of an enclosed trailer, I realize I must be careful in
trailer selection to ensure happy towing. Originally, I had focused on
having a 6x10 built with a 4' interior height to keep the overall height
under 6' and keep it down out of the wind as much as possible. However, I
have recently learned that I can get a V-nose trailer for not much
additional cost, and that, on the surface, looks like a potential solution.
How much do V-noses on the front of trailers help compared to flat noses?
Anyone have a feeling for which would be better alone, reduced height or a
V-nose? Anyone have experience towing comparable trailers, one in V-nose
and one in flat nose?
Anyone have any thoughts in general on towing with a smaller truck? My
loaded weight will never exceed 2000 lbs, and will normally be less than
1700lbs. I will be adding a brake controller and getting a trailer with
electric brakes.
What about recommendations on trailer brands to look into/avoid?
thanks
-dave
