tire warmers (the living kind)

How are these arrangements usually made?  What is a typical amount of money 
paid to the car owner?  It wouldn't be too hard to figure out tire usage 
costs, but general wear and tear, brake pads, clutches, etc could be a bit 
tougher.  Is there a rule of thumb?
