You are absolutely right again, and again, and again, and again (and again 
and at least again) about this 'problem'.  Not only does it dilute the 
quality of the competition, it has diluted the quality of the awards that go 
with it (on a national level).  I don't know about anyone else, but this 
year's hunk of wood looks very cheap next to 1980's leaded crystal vase ...

 doesn't.  When is the last time we deleted a class?  (Yes, I know that
 F/P went away temporarily - but came back to make the world safe
 again for Fieros.)
 
 Adding 12 classes in 3 years would have been fine, had we deleted
 an equal amount.
 
 Class proliferation diminishes competition, and most often does not
 recruit ("build it and they will come") from outside, but rather
 shuffles
 the existing competitor base.
