I just came through the KC-Topeka run down the Kansas Turnpike (which is
I-70 in that section). Ran it both ways.
It did not seem much worse than usual. Greater PITA between Topeka and
Salina (there's one pretty long zone, but still not last year's 17-miler,
and a couple of quickies). IMHO, I'd rather spend 15 minutes in the
construction zones than go two hours out of my way (I-80 to Omaha and then
south).
In fact, some of the stretches are quite nice. They are the "other side" of
the highway reconstruction begun last year, which means we are now driving
on the new pavement.
I drove them in something of a state of distraction -- my dad died a week
ago in San Francisco and I went to KC to catch a plane -- and even then it
did not strike me as difficult. I was able to zip thru most of the zones at
the allowable 60 per.
