Autocrossers made a pretty good showing this weekend at the Motorola 220
Champ Car weekend at Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI.
Mark Daddio drove his SSB Neon out from the East coast to run the Neon
Charity Challenge event. He met up with his crew, Bud Collins and
myself, to form "Team Gazoo". On Saturday, Mark ran from a 9th place
start to 5th place finish in Race #1, setting him up for a 5th place
grid position on Sunday. Mark ran a smart and moved up to a 2nd place
finish in Sundays race! Great finish for having run only a handfull of
events in his Neon. Had he prepped his motor to the nth degree, he may
have been in teh winners circle.
The biggest thing I found about winning in road racing versus Solo is
that while we drink beer and celebrate after winning in Solo, you tear
engines apart for 4 hours when you win in road racing. :(
Jeff Altenberg had a great race and placed third in the Trans Am race on
Saturday, althou I didn't really see much of it. (We did a bunch of
brake jobs in the two days...RA is tough on 'em.) Congrat's AX'ers
