I'm not sure there is any logic behind it.  Personally, I think it's cuz the
Mustank and Camarobird drivers can't stomach the idea of a turbo Miata
blowing them into the weeds ;)

If it's really THAT much of a problem, what about TWO classes of SM cars?
Or just create one and let them suffer the consequences.  The main thing to
remember is that in autocrossing it's the DRIVER, not the CAR, that is most
important.  I run C Stock and I'm usually faster than most of the local
Street Mod guys (true, we don't have anyone of the same caliber as the
Schotzes here, but that's how it works here).
