Beware, because if you go in to a circuit court with this case, the other
cars will disappear, you will have been driving erratically, there was
suspicion of alcohol involvement, it will have been darker, slower
traffic will have been heavier, or something else totally unverifiable so
the judge will have to decide in a "my word against yours" scenario.
Guess who will get the benefit of the doubt?

Yes, these two drivers were singled out, for two reasons. The officer
may have created a severe traffic problem had he attempted to stop the
whole line of cars. Also, in court, he has a better chance of making the
sportscar drivers appear to be lawless brigands who deserve to be
punished. Additionally, these two cars may have been the only ones not
garaged somewhat "locally" and so easier to assume that the owners would
most likely send a check to the court and move on.

I will not try to give advice because there is a good case for either
option. I have fought unlawful citation in the past ("No your honor,
there were no other cars on the street at this time. Only Mr. Prevo.")
with limited results. I wish there were some way to penalize local
constabularies on the state level for this type of selective law
enforcement and abuse of authority.
