Be careful of what you wish for. Here in Ohio, there was talk of
eliminating the emissions testing and replacing it with -DRIVE BY SENSORS
WITH ENFORCEMENT. Can you say hassle? Do you like photo radar? This
would be better at revenue enhancement. But....Ohio Republicans had
given the lucrative guaranteed profit contract to some AZ Republican
donor (at least here in NE Ohio). When it seems there was a quite
rational decrease in registrations in those counties with emmissions,
they backed off on doing a more time consuming (and thorough) test in
favor of one that might actually be harder to tune around (and less
meaningful to boot). AND, the gummint will raise the price 10% to make
it all more profitable next year. Be careful if you've got a midengine
car. Friend's X-19 was all set with the front wheels on the drum.....Oh
yeah, 4WDs get by with v. simple test, too.
