I am really intrigued by the SOLO II STS class, I am considering Making my one
time Rally project concept into A STS autocross/Pro-solo Gun.. and since it
looks like the class is here to stay..
Well a few questions regarding classing and the 325ix that may become this
project..
1. update/backdating is legal in STS so
a. can I update the Viscous LSD from the IX into a "plain 2wd 325?"
b. what is the best 325 engine ever (must be a 325 to follow rules) that can be
retrofitted into a 325ix
legally (I don't know if I can use a euro oil pan to clear the front driveshaft
for a DOHC motor) since to the best of my knowledge a e36 IX was not sold in
the US
c. can I update the brakes from a 325 M-tecnic which i think are M3 brakes?
d. is the AWD (a completely viscous coupler system) worth the weight VS. just
updating a RWD 325 to viscous... I know the Scoobyrus seem to do well, but an
older system like the IX might not work as well for it's added weight...
so the 2 options I guess will work best is..
a lightweight E30 body with a e36 325 motor M3 brakes
2wd IX Viscous LSD, and a killer SP suspension
or a AWD IX system with (DOHC if oil pan change is allowed) or a nice E30
2.5/2.7 motor with Update/bd to the limit..
one may be better for Pro solo, but if it keeps me from doing well in "classic"
soloII it might not be worth it..
also
can anyone offer me more exact info on all 325's and all the different versions
of them.. and what is the "accepted" street prepared updating scheme, do
models not offered in America apply? (if listed on the same line?) how much
modification is allowed to facilitate a update, can I create custom motor
mounts etc... to make a different motor fit?
the STS rules are still early in development so things are not "spelled out"
like the other classes
Thanks I will come up with more questions after looking over the pile of parts
(that one day might be a car again) this weekend..
Thanks everyone
