The portion of the first sentence, "modifications which have no effect
on performance and/or handling and do not materially reduce the weight
of the car are permitted." Still doesn't capture what you are looking
for. I'll give you an example that was kicked around on a Mustang list a
while back.

You can buy custom made synthetic granite speaker enclosures designed to
reduce unwanted resonance. You could make a subwoofer enclosure out of
the granite and bolt it in the hatch area of the Mustang. 300 pounds of
ballast right where you need it on a Pony. And a perfectly legitimate
purpose from a C&C standpoint. Those unwanted resonance are a real
affront to the audiophile ear. Based on the above sentence, you would
have to banish the car, as there is a definite improvement in
performance by adding this C&C item.

But what about the kid with the tin ear who bolts a 30 pound subwoofer
in his hatch? It is still a performance improvement, just to a much
lesser degree. I suspect most people would allow this car in under the
C&C rule you just proposed. So what we are really talking about is the
degree of performance change. Any weight added has an effect on
performance and handling, some of it beneficial. Where do you draw the
line?

I say just drop the words "have no effect on performance and/or handling
and" and live with the creative ballasting that someone can perform by
adding C&C items.

So the first sentence should read:

Accessories, gauges, indicators, lights and other appearance,
comfort and convenience modifications which do not materially reduce the
weight of the car are permitted.

I like what you've done with the rest.
