According to an article in this week's Automotive
News, the NHTSA has opened a defect investigation on
the Firestone ATX, ATX II, and Wilderness models of
truck tires. There have been reports of a number of
serious and/or fatal accidents involving these tires
self-destructing at highway speeds, particularly those
fitted as original equipment on Ford Explorers. If
you have these tires on your vehicle or know someone
who does, you might wish to take note of this.
