Yep, you are right on that one.....esp. handguns.
=========================
As of at least 3 years ago, you could bring handguns into Canada from the
states but there was significant amounts of paperwork involved. I know
because my last hobby was competitive combat pistol shooting. I attended
several larger matches up there, North of the border. I did have to leave
my high dollar 18 and 20 round pistol magazines at home and just take my
lame-ass 10 rounders due to Canada's 10 round mag limit. What a waste to
spend big bucks on a finely hand-built and tuned pistol that's designed for
the 18-20 round mags and then handicap it with puny government mandated
"safe" 10 rounders. So it can be done, at least 3 years ago it could, but
it's a pain in the rump.
Otherwise to cross the border, you don't need any passport but rather some
sufficient id including either/or birth certificate, social security
no.....driver's licence is good to have. :^) Basically to prove you are a
US citizen.

How 'bout an NRA card? ;^)

How about some Moosehead? Or Big Rock? :^)

More importantly, how about Guiness? I like chewy beer.
