I have lost the original poster's ID, please forgive
the open retort. Maybe some of it is of interest to
others.

Your car does not fit well into the finely crafted
SCCA rules structure. Few entry cars other than pure
stock do. There are some friendly options not often
discussed on this terribly PC forum.
The friendliest item in the book is the protest
procedure. Only others in your declared class may
protest you over nnon-safety illegalities. So normally
as long as they beat you they won't care. You may also
wish to simply ask them before hand if they care.
Outside of SFR this seems normal behavior WRT new
folks.
The book also encourages local classing. Ask what
your area has for local flavor. Maybe SM [not the new
national [D]SM, but a more general class] or maybe
OSP.
You may also run in any class not used locally and
be free to do as you wish. I know of at least one
region that adopted an OSP class rather than allow the
unused AP class to be so "violated". Whatever it
takes.
Finally, "uncompetitive" is often an economic
imperitive but never a sin. A lack of preparation is
much more common than seems perceived on this forum.
IOW, who cares if someone else beats them as long as
they are having fun? FP needs more participation,
maybe CSP doesn't. So go there and don't look back.
