I used to run 225/50R15's on 15x6 OEM wheels on my '96 Miata M-edition (similar width, 1" larger dia), and had the same problem with the sway bar rubbing. I found that putting 1/4" spacers on the hubs solved this entirely. (The '99 Miata alloys should work fine w/o spacers, as they have -40mm offset instead of -45mm on the M1's.)
