For those who remember Tony Mashburn:
Back in '95 when I sold my Van Diemen to Bill Lamkin, I delivered it to
him at the Irvine Pro Solo down near LA. Bill was trying to figure out
if he was going to drive it at that event or not, when Tony Mashburn,
standing next to us and the car, said, "I'll drive it!" and proceeded to
hop in. How he did that, I can't say. I was standing right there, and
saw him slide in. He got in *really* quickly, probably the only way to
do it, kind of like ripping off a band-aid. That car didn't even have a
removeable steering wheel!
The bodywork *was* bulging, and he had a little bit of trouble with
having enough arm and shoulder room to steer, but he did really well, if
memory serves. He may have even led a heat! I have no recollection,
however, of watching him get out.
