After seeing the accident (on tv) that claimed the life of Greg Moore I
am convinced that the outcome would have been less severe with certain
track changes. There should not be a raised (access road to the
infield) surface that will launch the car into the air, as happened in
this case. If the infield had been paved considerable speed could have
been scrubbed off. Grass has a very low frictioncoefficient even if the
car is in contact with the ground. Given the above, the car probably
would not have been airborne. A tire barrier or similar system would
then have prevented direct contact with the concrete wall. After all,
speed does not kill, it's the sudden stop. It could have been
different.
