I'll have to chime in here with my experiences in a GSX with Kumho
245/25/17s. During my second event on the tires, I nearly spun the car
exiting a 3 cone slalom and some observers said that I lost a belt off the
engine. I checked and there was no missing belt. Then, I found what had
happened.
I checked the inside of the right front tire and the tread blocks on the
shoulder of the tire had been SHEARED off apparently due to a bolt that
sticks down from the upper control arm. This bolt hit the tire when I nearly
spun the car (leaning the suspension HARD on the right hand side). FYI, yes,
my kumhos did have a crack in the sidewall.
Honestly, I believe this situation was due to the fact that these tires were
*just too big for the wheels*. I had no spacers on the hubs but the tire did
*appear* to have plenty of clearance. But as we all know, the Kumhos do tend
to deflect more than other tires and I believe this was a major cause of this.
*My* solution? Run narrower kumhos or run BFGs.
