Great attitude! And you should do well.
You mention you are from the Oregon region. Having just spent a bit of
time there (rafting the Klamath and visiting the Holy Grail of
Cheese..Tillamook, along with some other sites, such as Crater Lake and
the Columbia Gorge), I have a question.
Driving south on 101 thru the lovely town of Brookings. Driving about
90+mph in the minivan, enter the town at 55mph, see 45mph and drop
speed, see 35mph and drop speed. Now going very slow, but understandle
since the highway runs thru a small town. Have radar detector. See cop.
No problem...but officer pulls a u-turn and pulls me over. Huh?
Asks "Do you know what the speed limit is?". I am now parked UNDER a
speed limit sign, so I say "Yes, it is 35mph". He replies, "It was
35mph, but for a small section there, it goes to 25mph". So, I got a
ticket. This just seems wrong. Sure, I guess I should have noticed the
25mph sign, but the middle of town is more difficult to notice one more
sign, and 35 sure felt safe and sane. To have a one block section marked
25mph, seems like a speedtrap. I noticed no other town on 101 that had a
25mph limit, though one may exist.
Any thoughts on how to deal with this, or should I just send in my $$$
and forever dislike Brookings Oregon? Please reply privately as this is
way off topic.
Driving further south on 101 thru Big Sur, I see a Miata with stripes
approching from the other direction. Noticing a familiar windshield
sticker, I see it says SCCA ProSolo, so if you were wondering why that
guy in the red minivan was waving, it was me. 8-)
It was a bit odd in the redwoods, downloading team.net mail from a
public phonebooth dataport using a laptop, but having a DVD player in
the laptop really helped cut down the "dad...are we there yet" stuff.
Last downside of being on vacation, I am too late to sign up for the
practice autocross this weekend....after driving a minivan for 2000
miles, I could use some MR-2 time. Oh well.
