Top 10 things to do as a newbie:
1. Ask lots of HOW... questions of the oldies
2. Install a racing harness for the driver's seat
3. Get a set of "DOT" racing tires on the lightest (stock size) wheels
4. Enter every autox you can (Seat time, seat time, seat time)
5. Make your suspension tight and aligned (performance parts not req)
6. Get/borrow a rule book, some mods are legal in Stock classes
(contradictory, isn't it?)
7. Break down and join the SCCA, our region discounts entries $5
8. consider an autox school - most of us are still learning
9. Have fun - nowhere else can you punch it, spin, and not get nailed
10. LISTEN TO THE ANSWERS FROM #1
I am a newbie myself, and have an 87 2.8v6 Camaro RS in GS. I haven't done
any thing great on the track, but the above list covers things I have and plan
to do. If you are running a 2.8 with a manual trans I think you have a good
chance of beating some of the other cars in GS.
Enjoy your first year or so, call it a "building year", then look for either
performance mods within stock, or out to CSP, or a different car and class.
I know I'll wind up in FS or CSP eventually...

give me a small over view of classes I could run (the car is >stock, though it
