Alright, one more question on the same topic.
The rules give you 1/2" leeway in track, and it doesn't really matter how
you get there (as I read it). So you have .25" per side, or 6.35mm. The
stock offset of the wheel I have is 45mm, so legally I could go down to
38.65mm. Ideally to fit a 225 tire I would want about 41mm offset, or 4
less than stock. The popular H$R spacer is 5mm.
I've found quite a few cheap wheels with a 38mm offset, .65mm away from
legal. Is it possible, practical, and safe to have a set of wheels milled
.65 - 2 mm from the hub mating surface? Has this ever been done? How much
would it cost?
The difference is between paying $150-200 for 38mm wheels and $?? for
milling them or paying $400-600 for 45mm wheels, $60? for spacers, $20 for
longer studs, and pressing and replacing the studs. I guess an accompanying
question is whether it is necessary to replace the studs when using the 5mm
spacer.
Thanks for any input
Matt
