Event the base ST allows ANY spirings and shocks as well as redilly available
bolt on parts. They could make seriously stiff cars that are unreasonable on
the street. It would be nice to limit it in some way, but that is not going
to be easy. When I "de-tuned" from EMod to STU I did raise my ride a bit and
took off my huge sway bars in favor of the stock ones, they work better with
the G-Force tires than the stiff setup did. Allowing coil overs is no big
deal, many people have them. I made my car able to drive over a 4x4 without
rubbing anywhere. Now I can get in driveways without cringing. But as written
in the book now, ST, STR, and STU all could be ground scrapers. They even
allow the dropped spindles and curved lower arms to correct geometry on
lowered cars. I think this is good, but a minimum ground clearance rule might
not be a bad idea. Some may not like my 4x4 clearance, but it seems
reasonable here in the pot holes real world. Other suggestions should be
heard too. Anyone have a feeling about limiting rim sizes and tires also?
I think it is interesting to see where this is going. SCCA is not very open
to this kind of thing, so it may just be an excersize, but it is worth
talking about. True, serious Solo built cars may come in and win, but with
tuning any of the cars talked about here should have a chance. For the
record, my beast is an 83 Celica rear drive IRS with the stock motor boosted
to 11-12 psi of boost and a mild cam in it. On a cool day I make about 300 hp
and can do 0-60 in under 5 seconds. but at the National tour I came in behind
a non boosted Neon with a ported head and a Gerodisk LSD. Probably over 100
hp behind me but weighing 200 pounds less too. We were both on 225 G-Force
tires.
