Thank you for all the excellent replies to this email. After going back to
the dealer I examined the car and found the following.
After about 3000 rpms the car would hesitate some and start to miss, I know
this is when the secondary turbo kicks in and does not sound too good.
Car spilled coolant after test driving it for a couple of miles, we had to
jump start it, apparently it needs an alternator.
Fifth gear would grind every time unless you nudged it into 5th.
Much free play in center position on steering wheel.
I did not want a $10,000.00 project but rather a fast driveable car that I
could autocross , I did not buy the car, I heard today it was sould at the
Ft Lauderdale Car auction for 11,500.00
I did move the deposit to a red 1991 Nissan 300ZX turbo, with a 109000
miles, I drove it and it seems solid, it is extremely fast, and very
comfortable. It seems faster than what I remember the RX7 to be (I bought
one in 1993 new and drove for 2 years - filed lemon law and won) I know
that it's quite a bit of miles for a turbo the car idles smoothly, does not
miss, stops straight, goes where pointed, has original paint, no bondo,
frame is straight and looks great.
Any thoughts?
Jack
