Generally, thread engagement should be equal to or greater than the
diameter of the stud -- thus, if you have a 1/2" stud, you should be
engaging at least 1/2" worth of threads. Other factors can come into
play (e.g. cars which are hub-centric mean to have their load borne by
the hub rather than the studs, and some spacers don't take this into
account, etc.). Be careful.
