I have been autocrossing for 27 years and Solo 1 for 3, The autox skills
definitely helped me. It just took a while to drive at the limit when you
have the potential to hit something if you lose it. :-)) Since Solo 1 is
not actually racing (it's practice with other cars on the track and limited
passing rules), you can actually apply "ideal" racing lines a good bit of
the time. The big difference is instead of making instant decisions and
thinking 2-3 turns ahead like in autox, you suddenly find all this "free
time" to set up for the next turn. It really only took me about half of the
first 20 minute session to get up to full speed. I share a car, actually 2
at the moment, an IT Datsun 510 and/or an AP/GT2 240Z. My partner has much
more road racing experience and I have much more autox. I consistantly beat
him on the autox courses and he consistantly beats me on the road courses
(but we're closing in on each other :-))
