It's actually very simple, once it's been properly explained to you. :)

Firstly, there are two kinds of SCCA Solo competition: ProSolo and "normal"
or "amateur" Solo2.

ProSolo is the drag-race-start, two cars on mirror (heh, in theory) courses
thingy, whereas "amateur" Solo2 is the exact same thing you have seen at
your regional events, only more so.

There are several levels of "amateur" Solo2 competiton: Regional (aka
"local" events), Divisional, National Tour, and finally, the National
Championship. All these series use the same rulebook and car classification
schema, although Regional events tend to make exceptions for oddballs,
whereas the more serious series tend to be a little more anal about the car
classification sections of the rulebook.

On the Pro side of the house, there are two separate divisions: Pro, and
National Pro Series. The "National Pro Series" used to be called "Club",
but the word 'club' was equated with 'newbie or
driver-who-can't-cut-it-in-Pro' amongst many (most?) people, so the word
'club' was scrapped.

The "National Pro Series" would be better phrased "Pro Solo format racing
for amateur racers" It's a place for people who normally compete in the
"amateur" Solo2 series to run in the ProSolo format. Accordingly, the class
structure and car classification/modification rules are ***exactly the
same*** as all other "amateur" series.

The "Pro" class in ProSolo is for all those weirdos and oddballs who
believe that the "Pro" in "ProSolo" should really mean 'professional'. This
is the class for the people who really wanna be F1 drivers, but don't have
the budget. :) As such, it has specialized car classes, and eventually I
suspect it will have specific-to-ProSolo car modification rules as well. If
you are a newbie, this isn't for you. This is the class for people who want
to wear uniforms and pull big-ass enclosed trailers with their picture on
the side. :)

I'd encourage you to come out and play in the National Pro Series. I find
the ProSolo format is a LOT more fun, and you get more seat time (good for
slow learners like me) Be aware though, that the caliber of driver in the
NPS is going to be on the order of those who compete in National Tour
"amateur" events. The first time you move up from a regional, you *are*
going to get spanked really hard, and that's rough on the ol' ego. It might
be a good idea to run a Divisional or Tour event to get that out of your
system before tackling the Pro series (where you have procedural ond format
changes to learn too)

No. You can compete in ES/CSP in the "National Pro Series" classes.

Non-turbo? Ohhh, you poor dear.... <does best Sally Struthers impression>
Think of the poor deprived children! *sniff*

Say, anyone out there who has the Pro info packet: Any chance of
summerizing it to the list? By the time I get it up here in the Great White
North, it'll be smegging March.
