Steve,

Thanks for the heads up.

However, as Jim said, I would really like to know what the reasons are for
suggesting the change before writing a letter either for or against.

How was 1310# determined and how do we know it has any validity regarding
actual autocross potential?

How many people really are interested in taking wings off a 2000 cc car and
adding a bunch of weight?

What good do the FC wings actually do on an autocross course? Maybe the
cars would be slower with the weight of the wings hanging out front and back.

It's not like there is a shortage of appropriate 1600 cc cars or parts.
Especially since many of the best autocross cars don't have a good home in
road racing (too new for Vintage or even Club or Spec Ford and too slow for
Formula Ford). Even Tommy's Swift doesn't seem to have a market unless the
price goes way down. Why should the rest of us agree to a change that could
easily hurt our "investment". (You don't see the Vintage Racers allowing
newer cars into their exclusive club very often, if at all . . .I wonder if
"resale" has any impact on that policy?)

One concern is that if the 2000 cc cars are not competitive at first, due
to either lack of top level driver(s) or preparation, the original proposed
weight will be lowered. Then who knows what will happen but it could easily
obsolete a bunch of 1600 cars.

Also, who has scales at Regional events and non-SCCA events to make sure
the 2000 cc cars actually add the weight. At least with the 1600 cc cars it
is hard to get much below min weight. A road race car with wings removed is
presumably a lot lighter than the proposed autocross weight.

Where would they add the weight safely? Especially with light weight drivers?

Plus, the wider wheels really add complexity to the "equalizing" effort.
(Make them run 5.5 inch wheels and I might change my mind:-)

How much more power and torque with what shape curves does the 2000 have
compared to the 1600?

One of the great things about CM is that people looking at the class know
that just about any 80's vintage 1600 cc formula ford can win. Why add
complexity?

In summary: What's in this for "us" and for the sport and why should we
think the 2000's will be equal to the 1600's and S2's?
