That was an interesting tidbit about what happened to the Bridgehampton racing
circuit.
For those who haven't yet been to Lime Rock Park (in the northwest corner of
CT), a compromise was reached years ago, as far as racing. Racing was banned on
Sundays(and still is), so a typical race weekend includes a Sunday car show,
with show cars parked on the starting grid and part of the back esses, and a
autojumble using one of the paddock areas running all weekend.
For the Labor Day Weekend Vintage Fall Festival, one aspect of the car show is
an annual SAAC and Mustang show on the back esses, and a featured marque for
the starting grid. One year recently featured Italian cars, and another was a
BMW M1 gathering, with a mixture of other marques. It's only a three hour drive
from Boston, a little less from Manhattan, and it's always worth the trip.
Sadly, I haven't seen any Cheetahs yet, on the track, but the late race car
driver , Fitch Sprint creator and LRP neighbor John Fitch was always there with
his Fitch Phoenix, and several times Carroll Shelby was an invited guest.
