heater valve movement

I am looking for a new heater valve.  The tip Rick gives in his catalogue
about a 78-79 Honda Civic valve is no longer useful, those valves are not
available.  However, many valves potentially will work.  My question before
I go on my scavenger hunt:  when the valve's selector arm is forward, is the
valve open or closed?  While it would work either way, it would be nice for
the control panel to be correct.

 

I will advise what valve works best.
