Tim,
There is a special lube for speedometer cables that I bought back in
the '70s when I was rebuilding my series I Alpine. It's a very fine,
white colored grease that is whiter than Lithium grease. Maybe something
like "Lubriplate", purchased from a bearing house, would be fine enough
to lube the cable. That's about the best lithium grease that I can find.
