...and, in fact, it works with virtually every 4-cylinder engine I've ever 
come across - and that's a bit more than a few.  I've used it since my first 
1959 Austin A-40!

Doug,
        The order of valve adjustment in the shop manual may be confusing so 
here is a simple trick: magic number nine.  Beginning from the front of your 
engine...

...Adjust "number one valve" when "number eight valve" is open.
        (one plus eight equals nine)
Then adjust "number two valve" when "number seven valve" is open.
        (two plus seven equals nine)
Adjust "number three valve" when "number six valve" is open.
        (three plus six equals nine...and so on)

This works for both iron head and alloy head Rootes engines.
