The best way is to NOT have the arm/lever attached to the boot lid. You can
then rotate the lever into position and attach the spring. With the lever
attached to the spring you will have enough leverage to move it into place and
attach the two bolts that mount the lever to the boot lid. There is no need to
fight this one. - Ian

Ive been there...
I had to lay down in the trunk with the rear top cover open
to get a reasonable handle on puting in the springs.
Also if you are familiar with how to install springs on rear
drum brakes and the tool that is used, this strategy will also
work on the trunk sprigs using a long screwdriver or a prybar.
If you do get in the trunk to install those springs, do wear
eye protection.

Hey all-
What's the trick for putting those un-godly powerful springs back into the
trunk hinge mechanisms? I tried just doing it by hand and had to laugh. No
amount of spinach helped and taking a loop of webbing around me for leverage
still looked like a struggle. Any tips would be much appreciated before I
damage myself.
