I have a question on the final gear ratios I may get. I have two 1961 Series
II's, one of which came with a O/D but a badly corroded undercarriage. The
other is a rust free California car and is the first to be restored but it
is without O/D. From what I can glean from various manuals there were two
rear axle ratios on the Series II's, 4.22 : 1 and 3.89 : 1. All the specs
that I can find only give data on the final ratios with O/D units under the
4.22 : 1 columns. This shows a resulting final ratio with O/D of 3.39 : 1.
The question is: Do I get a final ratio with O/D in the range of 3.06 : 1
if I install the O/D with my current rear axle ratio of 3.89 : 1? What
would be the end result on the top speed?
Am I way off base or have I just read far more than I have yet to put into
practice?
