The dippers do use a final protective sealant that works pretty well as long
as you keep your hands off of the bare metal. Light surface rust will appear
after the body has been touched by bear hands. This cleans off easily and
isn't a problem.

Preventing future rust in those areas is preventable. It sometimes takes a
creative solution, but in most cases, those hidden areas are exposed when the
rusty sheet metal is removed and can be coated with epoxy primer. Remember,
there was nothing protecting that hidden area before, that's why these cars
rust from the inside out! :-)

We use techniques that involve allowing the epoxy primer to flow into hidden
areas too. It can be done, it just takes some effort and time.

Here's an interesting note: Rootes actually sent a dealer bulletin that
explained how the Alpine and Tiger should have the seam filler in the wheel
wells removed... the inner rockers washed out... and new seam filler
replaced... once a year! - Ian
