Actually, I was quite surprised by just how many Alpine were on eBay right
now. What were there 5 or 6? Yes, I thought that white one looked nice.
That said, I'm still amazed that people buy cars on eBay without seeing
them in person. A shiny wax job and a funny shadow do amazing tricks to
make cars look better than they are.
Then there is a guy on another list who bought a sports car that said
"clean title." He later found out the car had been totalled. Despite
countless people telling him "clean title" means there are no lender liens,
he is still trying to sue the seller claiming a "clean title" means no
totals. Either way, people are very tricky with words. There was also a
Porsche 356 kit car on eBay. The seller was a pro - literally and
figuratively. There were about a dozen pictures of the car in beautiful
locations, and pages of write up on the car - not just a few lines, pages.
The word "kit" was not used even once. In fact, it said "Porsche
Speedster" all over the place. There were only two places that indicated
it. One place said "Fresh out of the box" - but that might be taken to
mean as if it was just restored, like new. One other place said "built in
1998." That of course couldn't mean anything else. But, it was buried and
could easily be overlooked. That said, I'm not sure the buyer would have a
strong argument that it was not as disclosed.
So, I guess, just be careful out there!
