There are some machined tabs at both ends on the block, I think on
the pushrod side of the block ( sorry no engine in the office to look at).
Each tab has 2 letters on it, corresponding to the 2 cyls that that tab
is located.  The other tab has the other 2 letters.

Where #4 is B, #3 is D, #2 is B and #1 is C.
