Out side parking may cause these problems especially if the temp changes quickly
from cold moist to warm days. The points and distributor cap may have moisture
in or around them . Remove the cap/cover and spray in either silicone spray or
the famed W-D40 both will displace the water . Pinging is generally caused by
the timing off if the points are not sparking at the correct time.....water may
cause this too.

YES.... Firstly the sugar and fuel start reacting and when the fuel gets warm
sugar bakes into clumps. Any moisture and heat combination will /can ruin an
engine take out the valves and or carburation ..The engines dies with in a few
miles or if you are warming it up for a drive you may not make it to the
driveway Seen this and don't need to see it again.
