Listers,
I have a fellow Sunbeam freind here in Tucson putting together a S4 (late
model). He has run into a problem with his clutch having too much play. Car
has a full synchro trans. 7 1/2" clutch, the higher pivot mount, the stepped
flywheel & the non-adjustable slave cylinder. His problem is the slave runs
out of travel before releasing clutch. He has to shim pivot out 1/2" to get
proper amount of travel. He does have the slave mounted on the trans side of
the bell housing. We measured his bell housing which is different in design
from all bell housings I have but dimensions check out okay. I gave him a 8"
clutch complete with flywheel to try out as it looks to be taller when
installed. The bell housing has one number on it (1980970) and I wonder if
anyone can identify it. It does have two more bolt holes slimmer more
reinforcing ribs and I wonder if it is off the later fastback Alpine. Any
ideas out there?
