I can't speak as to the Spitfire part of this, but if it is a general run of
the mill J type, you have to change the tranny mainshaft (and all the
bearings and bushes while you are in there), and the rear mount (I think/maybe
not
on a 75), and drive away.
I put a J type on my 60 TR3A.
