I had that problem with my 72 after the rebuild, I had put the dizzy gear in
wrong and the rotor was 180 out. I thought it could only go in one way, HA.
Pulled the dizzy, the flange and swapped the gear around - fired up first time.

I had a similar problem with my 3A and a friend came over and moved the
distributor through a wide range until the thing fired.
