Earlier this year I spent a great deal of the list's time, and in
particular that of Dick and Vance, trying to get a handle on the
persistent issue of backfiring through the carbs when accelerating.
Well, I am very pleased and excited to say that the problem has been
solved by having the dizzy rebuilt by Advanced Distributors. After much
trial and error and frustration, it became obvious that the timing was
advancing but not retarding and strongly suggested either crudded up
advance weights or springs that had lost their tension. At any rate, off
went the dizzy to Shakopee, MN., and when it returned, in less than a
week looking like a new one, I popped it in, hooked up everything, the
engine fired right up and purrs like the proverbial kitten. I cannot
believe it!
Thanks for all your input, it has been a tremendous learning exercise
for me and I am certainly far more confident in digging around under the
bonnet than previously! The car still has a few issues to be dealt with
but at least it's running nicely!!
