  I have the same wheel and same issues. This may sound a bit anal (what the 
heck? we're ALL a little anal about our cars!) but after polishing my wheel I 
wear leather gloves when I drive. The reasons are:
   
  1. It avoids re-smudging the spokes
   
  2. It protects the wood rim from sweat that attacks and soils the finish
   
  3. People look at me and say, "My! He must be a skilled European race car 
driver!" :o)
